The Future of Magazines?

Nate just pointed this digital magazine concept out to me. It’s an amazingly well thought out about translating the experience of reading magazines into a digital space. And it looks like it’d be a super fun medium to design for: combining the structure of typography with the intuitive interactivity of touch-screens, and the richness of photography. I think it’ll be very interesting to see how a device like this allows for video and, more broadly, hyperlinking into externally related areas.

…and Sam just made me realise that this is a study of interaction with an outdated medium on a futuristic device; when this stuff is a reality, it won’t be limited to the type of content that is currently able to be printed on paper; instead it will be more video-based, richer and connected content.

In other words the celebrity paparazzi shots in your WHO magazine will all be video (hello TMZ) and the interviews with Leyton Hewitt will be video and audio… I wonder how that will impact on their ability to completely make up stories about celebrities like they do now…
