A few months back, I bought a cheap digital set-top box (dgtec hd usb dg-hd6760) to go with my hundred year old CRT TV.

I had low expectations to start with, but somehow, they weren’t low enough.

Everything was fine, except recording to USB never worked and the aspect ratio was always wrong.

So I updated the firmware that they supplied on the website, and BOOM!, everything went to shit. As it rescanned, it could only find the SBS mux, and it would crash at about 557MHz.

As you’d expect, Whirlpool has heavily documented this issue, so my bad for not reading up first I guess.

After some begging with DSE, they supplied the original firmware to roll back to. Why it’s not available on their website with the upgrade is an absolute mystery. So I’m making it available here for anyone like me. You need WinRAR or something similar to extract it too.

Verdict: Do not buy this STB or anything made by DSE!
